Course overview

This 2-day course provides delegates with advanced operational training in Fire Behaviour and tactical decision making when firefighting in structures. This course is ideal for FRS or the Industry sector who need to update their firefighter’s knowledge and skills in hot fire environments.

The BAARC course has been designed by specialist Instructors with the flexibility to make adaptations to suit each customer. The foundations of the course have been designed with a blend of theory and full exposure to hot fires. 

Day 1 comprises fire behaviour practical training covering water application techniques, movement of fire gases, TIC use and identifying flow paths. 

Day 2 focuses on BA wearers tactical decision making when firefighting in structures using knowledge gained from day 1. 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will have demonstrated understanding in :

  • Firefighting in containers
  • Fire behaviour theory including flashover and auto gas ignitions
    Identifying flow paths and understanding the movement of fire gases
  • Correct use of a thermal imaging camera
  • Firefighting tactics within structures including anti ventilation and ventilation options
  • Exposure to hot fire environments

Who should attend and key benefits

This course is designed as an advanced refresher training programme and is open to wholetime, retained and volunteer firefighters. It is also available to overseas and industrial fire & rescue services.

Delegates must be fit for full operational duties in accordance with Service requirements ideally out of development and in a competent role.

Overview

Develops and applies the core knowledge and skills required to perform safely and effectively whilst wearing BA at operational incidents. Practice and observation will take place in a series of realistic simulations and scenarios.

How is the course assessed and accredited?

Assessment is through observation in a series of practical exercises against specific assessment criteria which can incorporate each individual organisations needs or requirements.

All delegates will receive an attendance certificate which can be annotated to highlight what was covered on the course.
