Course overview and learning outcomes
Our suite of Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) qualifications are nationally recognised and aimed at individuals who wish to gain formal qualifications and develop competence within this sector. Our courses are designed to provide the knowledge and skills to assess premises classified as Low, Medium and High Risk.
These qualifications address the behaviours, knowledge and skills that have been identified as necessary for individuals to effectively conduct FRAs. They have been developed to align with the Industry Benchmark Standards for Fire Risk Assessors published by the Fire Sector Federation in 2022.
All our FRA courses are part of a development pathway where the candidate must complete each level of qualification before moving onto the next unless they can provide evidence of an equivalent qualification and experience of conducting FRAs at the appropriate level of risk.
Qualifications are awarded through FireQual.
Each qualification consists of 2 mandatory units, with content appropriate to the level of risk (eg Low, Medium & High):
- Principles of Fire Risk Assessment
- Conducting Fire Risk Assessments
Which course is for you?
FRA Low Risk - for those who are starting out in FRA and/or whose work will cover low risk premises
FRA Medium Risk - for those who already are carrying out FRA’s on Low Risk or premises which now straddle into Medium Risk
FRA High Risk - for those who already are carrying out FRA’s on Medium Risk premises which now straddle into High Risk
Each course is delivered over one week (5 days).
There should be a minimum of at least 6 months between attending each level of FRA course, where delegates should have applied the learning from each course by carrying out the appropriate level of FRA`s.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be considered for those individuals who can demonstrate extensive experience of carrying out FRA’s on Low, Medium or High risk premises and completion of an appropriate equivalent FRA/Fire Safety qualification. The level at which RPL will be applied is determined based on the evidence submitted.
Delivery Model
Our technological solutions enable a blended delivery model, combining e-learning, online and/or face-to-face learning. All learning and assessment will be hosted and supported through the College`s Learning Management System (LMS), which provides learners with a centralised portal to access their learning materials and undertake written and practical assessments. Throughout the learning and assessment process, skilled and qualified tutors will be readily available to provide guidance and expert advice to learners.
