Course overview and learning outcomes

The objective of this qualification is to provide the knowledge and skills to a range of individuals who have responsibility for undertaking fire safety checks. This qualification is aimed at candidates working within a Fire and Rescue Service and are who are required to identify and report on fire safety issues as part of their role i.e. checking a fire risk assessment is in place and identifying & escalating any fire safety issues.

This nationally recognised qualification has been developed in collaboration with Fire and Rescue Services (FRS)/Brigades and the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC).

All our fire safety courses are part of a development pathway where the candidate must complete each level of qualification before moving onto the next unless they can provide evidence of an equivalent qualification.

The course is delivered over 3 days and will provide an understanding of fire safety legislation, fire safety principles, the identification of hazards/fire safety deficiencies and control measures to mitigate risks from fire. Candidates will also be required to prepare for a visit to premises to carry out fire safety checks.

Qualifications are awarded through Skills for Justice (SFJ Awards).

This qualification consists of the following 2 mandatory units:

Who should attend and key benefits

The course is designed for operational firefighters who are required to carry out fire safety checks as directed by their individual FRS/Brigade.

We offer flexible delivery options which will benefit both candidates and FRSs/Brigades. This programme sits within the Fire Safety suite of qualifications and the learning journey will be supported by experts in this field. Traditional classroom based or virtual delivery options are available, and courses will take advantage of our digital first approach.
